Arsenal have signed veteran defender David Luiz from London rivals, Chelsea.
Looking at the defensive options in the center-back position, which includes Callum Chambers, Shkodran Mustafi, Rob Holding and Sokratis, it is fair to say Luiz’ achievements throughout his career makes more accomplished than the aforementioned players.
However, there is a reason Chelsea are willing to let Luiz go at the age of 32. Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have all been as verified by new coach Frank Lampard as better options.
There is a popular saying which goes, attack wins you games, defense wins you titles. If the Gunners are going to be successful this season it hinges on their ability not to leak goals consistently.
Luiz has been known to be comfortable bringing the ball out from defense, but time and again has displayed he is prone to silly mistakes. Over time he has been paired with a guardian angel such as John Terry, Thiago Silva, who have covered up his mistakes. This is something that will be missing at Arsenal
We all know what their attacking trio of Alexander Lacazette, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe can do, it is defensive they will be tested. Is David Luiz a defensive solution for Arsenal?
