Plenty pundits stated when appointed as Maurizio Sarri’s replacement that one year with Derby County in the Championship doesn’t make Lampard qualified to handle one of the top sides in Europe.

In his first competitive game, his Chelsea side looked out of sorts. Pondering if they were to build up from the back or deliver the ball quickly to the wide areas. The result was a mauling at Old Trafford.

Now the pressure is on and we will see what he is made off. Things don’t get easier for him, however. They battle reigning European champions Liverpool for the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday. Lose that game and Lampard’s heroics as a legendary Chelsea player doesn’t count to the fans who need results hence intense pressure.
