While Nicolas Pepe was praised as the new Cristiano Ronaldo after sealing a move to Premier League giants Arsenal. Lille swiftly responded by signing 21-year-old Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Wolfsburg.
Osimhen was loaned out to Belgian side Royal Sporting Charleroi last season where he impressed with over 20 goals.
Lille recruited Osimhen with the hope that they can build him into one of the best strikers from the African continent in the coming years, however, it seems he is ready to start delivering now.
It took Osimhen just 19 minutes to find the back of the net on his debut and was a constant threat throughout eventually his second of the game turned out to be the winning goal as Lille beat Nantes 2-1 in their opening fixture of the season.
It seems time and opportunity is what Osimhen was lacking not a predatory finishing instinct. Now with quality midfielders, he is expected to get better service.
It’s just one game out of 38 with the likes of Paris Saint Germain forward Kylian Mbappe favourite for the top scorers’ prize. If Osimhen made anything clear on his debut it is that he is relentless in his pursuit for goals?
